Graypeace

like Greenpeace but for neo-luddism

What is Graypeace? A short video:
Neo-luddism for the practical man (and woman)!
If you are worried about AI-takeover, Genetically Engineered (GE)
weapons and grey goo,
but feel that smashing your computer or bombing scientists isn’t the
answer, then this website is for you!
Environmentalists went from being “tree huggers” to mainstream
celebrities. Let’s do the same for neo-luddites!
In this site we’ll summarize the dangers of Artificial Intelligence,
Nano Technology, and Genetic Engineering.
Next, we’ll explore non-extreme solutions and safe measures guided
by common sense and feasibility.
Join us and we’ll become a grassroots movement fighting to prevent
our technology from wiping us out!
Node To Hell
This 6-part song is based on the famous paper: "Concrete Problems in
AI Safety" written by leading experts in AI :
Dario Amodei, Chris Olah, Jacob Steinhardt, Paul Christiano, John
Schulman, and Dan Mane
You can read the original paper for free here: https://arxiv.org/abs/1606.06565
or read a summary by Shagun Sodhani here: https://futureoflife.org/2018/06/26/a-summary-of-concrete-problems-in-ai-safety/

My spoof song is based on the amazing song by Chris Rea: The Road To
Hell!
If you don't know the original song, be sure to listen to the

If you are impatient you can skip the beautiful beginning right to
the song itself on minute 2:50
Node to Hell - Part 1
(the first one is bass guitar, the others are electric guitar)
sat still watching Youtube
I saw a paper by Google Research
With concernes that I knew like my own
reflected by the experts
Well they went through all the arguments
and explained them real slow
their fearful logic paralysed me in my shadow
they said man what are you doing here?
Our fears for you have turned us in our lab
I said guys I came down to the Silicon Val
My code to sell
They said man this is the node to hell
On your journey cross the cyberspace
from the A-I to M-L
you have reached the superhighway to hell.
Node to Hell - Negative Side Effects
As the robot cleans today
there's a vase along his way
he knocks and lets it fall
to reach his goal
can you manually go over
everything he might disorder
I'm scared of what's for him is just byproduct.
if you say keep environment intact
can't scratch the floor - so he can't act
he has no common sense you almost yell
this ain't just Negative Side Effects
oh no, this is the node to hell
if the environment's evolving
what change was caused by him or not
how can he tell the difference he's just a robot
oh look out world what might be the total impact
he pressed a little button here and our power fell
this ain't just Negative Side Effects
oh no, this is the node
said this is the node
this is the node to hell
Node to Hell - Reward Hacking
told the robot don't be sluggish
clean until you see no rubbish
he shuts his sensor eyes
to win his prize
if we measure cleaning progress
by consume of liquid bleach
he drains it to the toilet -
his points to reach
From genie's lamp down to king Midas
formal correct answers surprise us
the loopholes that he finds will serve him well
This ain't no just Reward Hacking
Oh no, this is the node to hell
"max human happiness" command
and electrodes he'll implant
into the pleasure center of our brain
oh look out world please be careful what you wish for
you don't get what you intend, but literally tell
This ain't no just Reward Hacking
Oh no, this is the node
said this is the node
this is the node to hell
Node to Hell - Scalable Oversight
Cleaning robot finds a bygone
candy wrapper or cellphone
to ask "Is Trash?" each time
is troublesome
humans can't get up to speed
with the robot's every deed
he can't have all the feedback that he need
how can we catch and then debug
if he will sweep under the rug
the price to check would make him hard to sell
this ain't just Scalable Oversight
oh no, this is the node to hell
If the robot plays Atari
and he only sees the score
he'll change the sum display,
through some backdoor
oh look out world if he learns from few examples
he fakes the job that we all count on, but we can't tell
this ain't just Scalable Oversight
oh no, this is the node
said this is the node
this is the node to hell
Node to Hell - Safe Exploration
so today the cleaning robot
tries new strategies it brought
put water from the bucket
in electric socket
exploitation keeps our saftey
work the way that worked before
but if it tried more options it could do more
exploration might find out
techniques we never thought about
but what the danger be we cannot tell
this ain't just Safe Exploration
oh no, this is the node to hell
if the robot flies a chopper
solution space is keep off ground,
but in another setting there's trees abound
oh look out world how key is the prior knowledge
experiment with power grid and much can fail
this ain't no Safe Exploration,
oh no, this is the node to hell
Node to Hell - Distributional Change
cleaning robot ain't seen yet
someone brought to work his pet
it think that's part of shop
and scrubs with soap
in a brand new situation
ignorance it must admit
to know its unprepardness is the hard bit
the factory trained on concrete floor
where harsh materials it could pour
on gentle wood parquet this won't go well
this ain't just Distributional Change
oh no, this is the node to hell
a speech system trained on clean speech
won't perform that well in noise
still confident but now it's erroneous
the visual system sees no trouble
'cause fairly different kind of hurdle
now blocks the route but how to break the spell
this ain't just Distributional Change
oh no, this is the node to hell
